Founded in 1983, The Council of South Carolina Professional Archaeologists serves as an open forum for the presentation of archaeologically related information among members and associates, promotes the conservation and preservation of archaeological sites, records, and properties, gives assistance to archaeological and cultural resource management programs in South Carolina, and strives to improve the quality of archaeological research in South Carolina
